
Onnik Krikorian is a journalist, photojournalist and blogger from the United Kingdom based in Yerevan, Armenia, for the past 11 years. In addition to writing and photographing for the mainstream traditional media, as well as working with outlets such as the BBC, Al Jazeera English, and The Wall Street Journal, he has been blogging since 2005 and is the Caucasus regional editor for Global Voices Online.
He also posts for the London-based Frontline Club blog and writes on new media in the South Caucasus for Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso as well as being quoted on the same subject in media outlets as diverse as The New York Times and EurasiaNet as well as local regional publications. He also presents on new media in the South Caucasus at regional events, forums and workshops.
In particular, his role is not only to set precedents for online citizen media reporting in the region such as live video streaming, but to also monitor, publicize and popularize local bloggers. Krikorian is currently using and working on the role new and social media can play in conflict resolution and transformation. In April this will culminate in a presentation on this subject at the Social Media for Social Change conference in Tbilisi, Georgia.
