
Erkan Saka (1976) is a lecturer at the Public Relations Department in Istanbul Bilgi University. He has recently received his PhD degree in Anthropology at Rice University, Houston, TX on Turkish Journalism and European Union membership process. He started blogging in 2004 to pursue his dissertation topic but now he has a larger but not unrelated agenda in his blog.
“Erkan’s Field Diary” evolved from a dissertation project on Turkish journalism and the European Union (EU). In addition to the original topic, the blog monitors socio-cultural happenings and cybercultural emergences in Turkey.
Erkan held a series of presentations, among which one at The Euprera EuroBlog2008 Symposium on “Social media and the future of PR: New ideas, new research, new business”, paper entitled: “Introducing New Media to new Public Relations Students” ; at the 9th EASA Biennial Conference in 2006- “Europe and the World: European Integration. An Anthropological Gaze”, paper entitled: “The Journalistic Metaphors in Understanding Turkey and the EU Relations”.
